Did you know 25 cents will buy a small bag of rice which will provide a meal for 6 people? We are encouraging our elementary students to bring in their quarters each Friday for our offering time during chapel. The money collected will go to Project Child so they may purchase rice for families in Haiti.
During technology class our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes will be playing FreeRice (click on link above). This site was created by John Breen and began on October 7, 2007. Donations are distributed by United Nation's World Food Program. It takes 400 grams of rice to feed an adult for one day or about 19,200 grains of rice (according to Wikipedia). You can make a difference by playing FreeRice.
So far our students have earned over 3000 grains of rice. If your child plays this game at home have them report to me the number of grains of rice they have earned. I will do my best to keep track of our total as a school. If you would like to join in please feel free to do so. Just search for Northside Christian Elementary School.
How to play: Click on the FreeRice link above. Our students are working on vocabulary. You will read the word and choose the answer. If you answer correctly 10 grains of rice are donated and your next question is harder. If you miss it the next question is easier.

Kindergarten Technology Today!
Today your kindergarten student worked on Construct-A-Word in class. Each student formed words using the endings "at" "ig" and "ot". This is a great activity to work on at home.
We also worked in Photo Booth on our Macs using both photo effects and video. Your child has become such a "Digital Native"!

Kindergarten - Today in the Technology Lab
Today our Kindergarten classes worked in Marble Math. Students continue to work on click, click/drag, and scrolling while counting and adding marbles. I want to encourage you to watch your child as they work in Marble Math.
We continue working with Moon Rock Patterns. Students added to the pattern by choosing the correct color moon rock while clicking and dragging the stones.
Your children are a joy to have in class. It is such a blessing each week to watch as their skills sharpen while working on the laptops. I am thankful to the Lord for this opportunity as He molds their lives.
God bless,
Mrs. Whipple
